The Houston Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra based in Houston, Texas. The first concert of what was to become the Houston Symphony Orchestra took place on June 21, 1913 with a limited budget and only 35 musicians. The orchestra continued performing until it was disbanded in 1918.The orchestra reformed in 1930, and expanded to a full orchestra over the next few decades. They got their first full year contract in 1970, and have grown to become one of the major orchestras in the United States.
