Little Shop of Horrors is a musical black comedy by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The production debuted off Broadway in 1982, and has been performed around the world. The original production won numerous awards, including the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the Drama Desk Award. It ran for 2,209 performances, making it one of the longest running off-Broadway musicals ever.
Based on a 1960 film of the same name, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. With it's small cast and simple orchestrations, the production has also become popular with local theater groups.
